The Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt (ZFTB) in southwest Iran is one of the most prolific hydrocarbon provinces globally, characterized by a complex interplay between basement tectonics and cover sequences. The Balarud Fault (BRF) stands out as a fundamental, east-west trending transverse basement structure that separates the Lurestan Sub-basin (LSB) from the Dezful Embayment. While much of the Zagros stratigraphy follows regional trends, the Paleogene sequences, particularly the Taleh Zang Formation (Early-Middle Eocene), exhibit dramatic thickness and facies variations across these structural boundaries. Results obtained from biostratigrahy, petrophysical data, and structural evidence indicate that the activity of the Balarud Fault caused significant variations in thickness, facies distribution, and the composition of biota across the two sides of this structure. The Taleh Zang Formation represents a crucial carbonate phase within the otherwise siliciclastic and pelagic-dominated Paleogene foreland basin. Historically, this formation has been viewed as a localized carbonate Homoclinal Ramp. However, recent exploration data suggest that its depositional architecture was heavily modulated by syn-sedimentary tectonic pulses, has converted to Distally Steepend Ramp. This study investigates the mechanical and sedimentological response of the Taleh Zang carbonate factory to the high-relief structural "throw" of the Balarud Fault. By comparing the stable platform of the Chenareh Anticline in the North with the highly subsided Lab-e Safid field in the South, this research aims to provide a new conceptual model for stratigraphic trap exploration in the northern Dezful Embayment.
